GROUP OF INSTRUMENTALISTS GOT TO TRY THIS BAMBOO ORGAN IN ANTIPOLO CITY

From Metro Manila, the YMCA Manila Gold Triangle Club traveled to Antipolo City to try Carolina Bamboo Carden’s bamboo organ, which can be found inside their Bamboo Museum.

In Vonne Aquino’s report on “24 Oras,” Thursday, the group’s musical director, Dr. Rocelle Navera, shared her delight upon trying the instrument.

“Ang bamboo organ napakaganda at authentic talaga at tsaka first time to see a real bamboo organ,” she said.

After trying the bamboo organ, the group then performed using their angklung instruments, which are a kind of Indonesian musical instrument also made from bamboo.

Each angklung instrument produces a sound of one musical note.

“Music is the language of the soul, and this is part of our language. Playing together, expressing ourselves makes us happy,” the group’s president, Estrella Borbajo Archival, said.

“Ang galing nila. Talagang very interesting. Actually sabi ko, baka sabihin ko kay ma’am magproduce na kami ng mga angklung,” Carolina Bamboo Garden Engr. Gary San Diego said.

Farm manager Ted Apellido said that they also hold seminars to help spread knowledge about bamboo.

“Nagko-conduct kami rito ng bamboo seminar twice a year, March tsaka October, para matuto or malaman niyo kung ano pa ‘yung ibang kahalagahan ng bamboo,” he said.

Moreover, the YMCA Manila Gold Triangle Club is composed of retired teachers who like sharing their musical talents in their free time.

“We performed na sa Coconut Palace, sa Cuneta Astrodome, Hard Rock Cafe, sa Daet, Naga. Legazpi, and more,” Dr. Rocelle told GMA News Online.

Aside from this, they also enjoy doing their personal hobbies.

Estrella said she likes going around their subdivision with her bike.

“Just to be fit and healthy, you have to go out in the morning during the sunrise and enjoy the wind and sunrise,” she said.

Meanwhile, Merlina Manongsong likes sewing curtains and bed sheets for personal use.

“Para at least makatipid-tipid,” she said. “‘Pag pumupunta ako ng Canada, dala-dala ko ang iba.”

Elizabeth Urgel, who enjoys taking care of her garden, also gave a piece of advice: “They must love holding soil at dapat maputikan ang kamay nila. I also try ‘yung mga sariling gawang fertilizer.”

As her message to the youth, Dr. Rocelle said, “Para sa mga kabataan, mahalin natin ang sariling atin. We have a lot of bamboo trees in the country, so bigyang pansin natin ‘yon. Gawan natin ng paraan na ma-propagate natin, mai-disseminate sa lahat ng mga future generations.”—Carby Basina/LDF, GMA Integrated News
